The role of the Beanstalk Reading Helper is to encourage children (usually between aged 6-11) to feel motivated and confident around literacy through reading, talking and playing games in 1 to 1 sessions.This is an ideal opportunity for those interested in teaching.Volunteers are required to sign up for 1 (or more) of the 2 sessions and attend this session every week during term time.

However we run an annual programme of different health related activities and campaigns throughout the year.

I am also interested in hearing students' own ideas.

This could be open to role share and can be discussed once your application has been received.

You must be available to do this during term time every week within school hours and to ensure consistent support for the child we ask you to commit to a minimum of three school terms.

There may also be the opportunity to lead a team of volunteers in organising and running events.

The Festival of Wellbeing is our main event in Oct/Nov when we need lots of volunteers.

The reading sessions are fun, relaxed and enjoyable. You work at the child's pace; there is no pressure or targets to reach.

Volunteers need to be able to commit to two 90 minute sessions per week.

Place boxes at suitable locations, keep a record of placements, monitor, empty and bank the box contents every 2-3 months and issue a receipt and thank you to the box holder.

Experience working alongside, Police, CCTV and night time economy agencies and the public.
